Compensation Disclosure Statement

At Coughlin Insurance Brokers, we believe in transparency and helping our clients understand how we are compensated for the services we provide.

As an independent insurance brokerage, we are paid in a number of ways depending on the type of insurance product and the insurer selected.

How We Are Paid

For most property and casualty insurance policies (such as home, auto, and commercial insurance), we are compensated by the insurance company through a commission that is included in your premium.

This commission is paid to us by the insurer as part of placing and servicing your policy — there is typically no additional cost charged directly to you for this service.

Commission levels can vary depending on the insurer and type of coverage.

Typical Commission Ranges

The following are general commission ranges paid to brokerages for various types of insurance:

  • Personal Lines (Home & Auto): typically between 8% – 20%
  • Commercial Insurance: typically between 10% – 20%
  • Travel Insurance: typically between 10% – 20%

These ranges may vary depending on the insurer, product, and complexity of the risk.

Additional Compensation

In some cases, we may receive additional compensation from insurers based on overall portfolio performance.

This may include:

  • Profit sharing or contingent commissions
  • Volume-based incentives

These forms of compensation are based on factors such as growth, retention, and profitability of the overall business we place with an insurer — not on any single client transaction.

Our priority remains placing coverage that is appropriate for your needs.

Fees

In certain situations, we may charge a fee for specific services, such as:

  • Policy placement for complex or specialty risks
  • Mid-term policy changes or cancellations
  • Administrative services

Any applicable fees will always be disclosed to you in advance.

Our Commitment to You

As an independent brokerage, we work with multiple insurance companies to provide choice and flexibility.

Our responsibility is to:

  • Provide advice based on your needs
  • Present appropriate coverage options
  • Help you make informed decisions

Our recommendations are based on what we believe is in your best interest.
